First Onion & Pea book – Campaign on Indiegogo

About the campaign

The purpose of the campaign is to promote our first book, “Onion & Pea: The Adventures of the Nuclear Onion and the Atomic Pea”. A full-color, 160-page paperback with 300 comic strips, extra drawings and comments by the authors. The book is suitable for all ages and will be published in two versions, English and Spanish.

It has taken us four years to put our very first book together, and we can’t express in words how much love and hard work has gone into it. We don’t want it to be just a book of comic strips; we want it to be a comic book that you can enjoy every time you read it. Now we need people’s help and support to turn this comic strip into a real book that you can finally hold in your hands. We’re hoping to raise $5,000 to cover the costs of printing, perks, and fees (Indiegogo, PayPal and banks). The campaign is 50% funded within the first week! It will close on July 29, 2014 (11:59pm PT). You can support our campaign and choose your favorite perk on: https://www.indiegogo.com/projects/first-onion-pea-book

We have the support of quite a few celebrities in the comic book world: Brian Crane, Sergio Aragonés, Tom Richmond, Rick Kirkman, Bill Morrison, Michael Jantze, Stephan Pastis, Lynn Johnston, Ryan Pagelow, John Glynn, Greg Evans, Mason Mastroianni – even “Weird Al” Yankovic! (see the pics at the end of the video) Just for checking out our campaign, we’ve prepared a little gift for you – a game for your mobile device! About Onion & Pea

“Leo was a normal boy with a normal life until two large, costumed vegetable superheroes showed up: Onion and Pea! Now nothing will ever be normal again.”

“Onion & Pea” is an online comic strip very much like the classics you see in the newspaper (Peanuts, Garfield, Calvin & Hobbes…), but at the same time we were aiming to push the boundaries a bit by making two vegetables the main characters in the book. We wanted them to show Leo how to see life from another perspective. We don’t just deal with universal subjects like friendship, love or fear; we also want to touch on current topics such as global recession. With “Onion & Pea”, our aim is to create a funny series with cute storylines and positive messages. Once you’ve started reading “Onion & Pea”, you won’t be able to put the book down!

Take a big bite of “Onion & Pea”: it’s not what you’d expect, and it’s really delicious!

“Onion and Pea” is a great comic strip. It’s got everything I look for in a comic; it’s very funny, it’s beautifully drawn, and it’s named after garden vegetables (just like my own comic, “Pickles”). So enjoy “Onion& Pea”. It’s delicious!
Brian Crane. Creator of the comic strip “Pickles”.

“Onion & Pea” are two vegetables everyone can love! Villena and Tomaselli have created one of those rare comic strips that combine absolutely beautiful artwork with consistently funny material. I’ve read a LOT of comic strips in my time and “Onion& Pea” is one of the few I can honestly call one of my favorites!
Chad Carpenter. Tundra Comics.

…You’re going to enjoy “Onion & Pea”, it’s delicious.
John Glynn, President at Universal Uclick.

“Onion and Pea” is a wonderful comic strip with funny writing and beautiful artwork-well worth becoming a regular reader of-but Villena and Tomaselli take their eBook collections to rarefied heights. Jam packed with fun extras like CGI animations, games, peeks at the process, author/artist commentary and more, “Onion and Pea” eBooks add even more fun to an already terrific comic strip! Plus, it’s healthy snacking!”
Tom Richmond. Cartoonist for MAD Magazine and President of the National Cartoonists Society.

… Theirs is a comic world with talking vegetables that role-play politics, pop culture and puns. Jose & David have crafted a world with no rules or boundaries starring a family that’s host to the vegetable equivalents of Bugs Bunny and Daffy Duck, but it’s a funny world and one worth exploring…
Michael Jantze, Creator of the comic strip “The Norm”. Jantze Studios.
