Jonathan Hickman’s New Avengers review by Raphael Borg

Everything dies.

With those words Jonathan Hickman’s epic run on the New Avengers – running counter to his equally epic run on the Avengers – hearken the death knell of the multiverse, a truly somber one at that.

Both narratives intertwine with one another at key moments highlighting the differences but as well clearly indicate why extraordinary being such as these need to come together- to counter extraordinary times. Both titles are an extensive conversation about what it means to be a hero, and the lofty burden that entails, the most glorious, and the lowest of lows. It questions the choices one with such burdens must take – and whether those choices exist at all – and it all climaxes to a wonderful confrontation between the two men at the heart of it all – Captain America and Iron Man, the aftermath of which is all reflected in its conclusion of Secret Wars.

It is a long read and quite a slow one, but it is all worth every second.

Everything dies.

Do we accept it, or do we rise up against it?
