Green Arrow Vol. 3: Against the Wall Paperback
by Joshua Williamson (Author), Amancay Nahuelpan (Illustrator)
I was happy to know that I was wrong that Joshua Williamson’s run on Green Arrow had ended.
I was even happier to know that, although this storyline – essentially a tie in to the Event “Absolute Power” was surprisingly good. While it did not contribute much to the overall story aside from a momentary diversion from the main story, it was pretty breathtaking as it was non-stop and well-illustrated action from start to finish. And while it took Ollie off the streets into the world of sci-fi superheroics again, it provided a happy compromise; Absolute Power had most characters depowered…and Ollie switch sides…for a purpose. Which are quite appropriate in reading given current world events.
I will not give in anything here as it has some good twists; however the one detraction that did take me out of it is just how the book suddenly stops and concludes the arc while skipping a sizeable chunk that is found in another publication.
You can argue that this is normal for comics and as a long-time reader, I should know. Well, yes. But here it annoys me because it is in a trade paperback, when more often than not, the cliffhanger to continue reading elsewhere is the end of the book. Here, for some reason it isn’t. I am usually fine with seeking out the main storyline and I am genuinely intrigued to continue reading Absolute Power. But the editorial choice here in terms of the Trade Paperback was odd.
A great save for a disappointing run, but could have done with better editorial choices when collected.
