The comic book Assassin’s Creed : Origins continues the story of Aya, just after the game with the same name, ends. Issue 3 picks up with Aya in Rome held captive after the assassination of Julius Caesar. Following Caesar’s death, Mark Anthony has been on the hunt for Caesar’s killers, Brutus and Cassius. Knowing that Aya had helped them in the assassination, she is interrogated for more information about the whereabouts of the two other assassins. After realizing that Aya will not cooperate she is thrown into a large cistern of water in order to die, mauled to death by 2 large hippos What follows is an intense fight sequence with a surprise twist.
Having only picked up the 3rd issue of this series and having played the game, I am intrigued by the fact that the series is exploring in depth the Roman Empire’s history through the comic. I will definitely pick up the previous issues and I am looking forward to see what comes next and if this will be reflected in future games. I like the story’s fast paced sequences which gives the comic the right “parkour-esque” feel of the original games.
Intriguing storytelling and vibrant art, the Assassin’s creed series of comics is for sure not to be missed by either fans of the franchise or generic comic book readers.
